The difference between Must-have and Nice-to-have

Have you the idea about how to differentiate the difference between Must-have and Nice-to-have?

There are two main explainations of them. we could say that ''must-have'' is yolk and ''nice-to-have'' is albumen. The other is much about the preference of either, like a ''must-have'' is better than a ''nice-to-have.''

It's quite confusing actually for people to mix-use these two phrases with two different types of description. It would be clearer if we call a necessary function ''must-have'' and a function making it preferable ''nice-to-have''. With the trait of necessity, the product is indeed in need by someone. The preferable trait would be just a nicer ingredient of the product. Without this ''nice-to-have'', buyer may not be that desperate for this product.

However, if a product with a great ''must have'' trait, just like the yolk of an egg, it lures the buyer from the first sight to the cheque. ''Nice-to-have'' is meant to picture the greater value of the product for the customer. If a product doesn't equipped with good enough nice-to-have, it would be just an ordinary product. Maybe the customer need this product, but he or she won't buy it without hesitation. On the other hand, if a product with strong ''must-have'' functions and also contains somehow fantasy but feasible ''nice-to-have'' trait, then it will kill the market.

The rationale above is the first kind to difference we are going to talk about today. The second kind of difference between ''must-have'' and ''nice-to-have'' is more about the essence of the product itself.

We may describe that ''a product is must have.'' It means that we have to have this product to help us in some ways. By so doing, we are goona buy, purchase and acquire this product at all costs. While the product is a ''nice-to-have'', we may not have the urgent to get it right away, because the value of it is not that important for now.

The second version of the difference between ''must-have'' and ''nice-to-have'' is to compare these two with necessity. Though, in my humble opinion, if we could try our best analyze and dig into things deeper with the core value, then we could get more multidisciplinary ideas and opportunities to be innovative.
